2025 Rocky Mountain Shootout/Hornblower Regatta

The Denver Sailing Association (DSA), as the organizing authority (OA), will conduct the 2025 Rocky Mountain Shootout/Hornblower Regatta on Cherry Creek Reservoir, Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, CO on May 17 – 18, 2025.

The Regatta is open to all Keelboats and non-self-righting boats (Dinghies). One Design fleets with four (4) or more entries will be recognized as a class. Anticipated classes are Santana 20s, J22, PHRF, Lightning, Melges 15, Laser, and Portsmouth.

Additional classes may be established at the discretion of the Race Committee (RC). Classes may be formed into divisions for starting purposes and courses.

Regatta Registration

Fees for the 2025 Rocky Mountain Shootout/Hornblower Regatta are $100 for boats greater than 17 feet in length ($90 for current DSA Members) and $80 for boats 17 feet or less in length ($70 for current DSA Members). These fees must be paid prior to May 9, 2025. Fees and registrations received after May 9, 2025, are subject to a $30 late fee. Junior fees (age 18 and under) are $35.00 with no late fee.

Online registration will be open through the button below until midnight Friday May 9, 2025. After this, on-site registration will be available at the DSA Clubhouse during the event’s registration/check times.

Saturday Breakfast – Included with Registration

Bagels & Spread, Coffee, and Orange Juice will be available 0900 – 1100.

Saturday Dinner – $25 Per Person

Dinner tickets are $25 per person and includes food and drinks.

Tickets will be available for purchased ahead of time through the button below, till midnight Friday May 9, 2025. Only limited number of tickets will be available day of at the DSA clubhouse.

Sunday Breakfast – Included with Registration

Bagels & Spread, Coffee, and Orange Juice will be available 0900 – 1000.

Sunday After Races – Included with Registration

Snacks will be available after races finish as we wait for final results and awards.

2025 Mallory Cup Qualifier

This year the Mallory Cup will be held in Park City, Utah, September 26 – 28, 2025. The
Mallory Cup is the national adult sailing championship, sponsored by US Sailing. Competitors throughout the US participate in a round robin format providing three days of challenging racing. Competitors sail boats that are provided by the host club. The boat chosen this year is the J-22. Each team is assigned a different boat for each race. To participate in the Mallory Cup all of the members of the team must all be members of US Sailing.

S.A.I.L will be sponsoring an entry team from the region. To qualify to represent S.A.I.L. you must be a member of S.A.I.L. and participate in the Qualifier Series by racing in three regattas in a J-22. The three regattas comprising the Qualifier Series are:

  • Denver Sailing Association’s Hornblower/Shootout May 17-18, 2025
  • Carter Lake Sailing Associations’ Carter Open June 7-8, 2025
  • Aspen Yacht Club Aspen Open July 19-20, 2025

Launching Boats

All boats new to Cherry Creek Reservoir must be first inspected and decontaminated of any and all invasive species.

Cherry Creek State Park has two boat ramps available for launching. The western ramp is the one located right by the Cherry Creek Marina and Denver Sailing Association.

You can check the park’s decon and boat ramp hours on their website.

Marina Storage

You may contact the Cherry Creek Marina manager, Tim, at (970) 409-2985 to inquire about temporary storage of visiting boat at the marina.
